Welcome to Mauro Acupuncture

I’m Christiane Mauro, Licensed Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicinal Herbalist

From an early age, I have been fascinated by the process of women’s health.

Almost from the beginning, I experienced pain with my period, and even though doctors told me it was normal, I knew that it was not. Having gynecologists constantly telling me that what I was experiencing was normal, prompted me to investigate myself and my experience and advocate for myself. Through this process I was eventually diagnosed with endometriosis.

My interest in childbirth led me to become a doula, which I practiced for 11 years. This helped me understand labor, what most commonly contributes to C-sections, and how to help a woman have a more efficient labor. It helped me understand the whole circle of life.

Working as a doula also helped support me as I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which I have been practicing since 2004.

I received my Master’s of Science of TCM from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, a 4 year intensive program, and I have undergone extensive training in Western bio-medicine, pathophysiology, electro-acupuncture, Gua Sha and cupping therapies, Chinese herbal medicine, and nutrition counseling.

I am licensed by the New York State Office of the Professions - State Education Department (renewed every three years), and I am board certified through NCCAOM (which requires continuing education and renewal every 4 year).

Outside of my New York-based acupuncture practice, I also volunteers with Global Healthworks Foundation (GHF), a nonprofit organization that provides integrative healthcare services to underserved communities domestically and abroad. I travel to Guatemala regularly to offer free TCM to low-income, indigenous communities. Read more about my experience here.

I’ll help you make an informed, efficient decision about your care.

Our initial treatment starts with a thorough intake and review of your patient questionnaire - what treatments you’ve tried, medical history, emotions, lifestyle, contraception history, periods, etc. We peel back the layers until we get into what is happening right now - the emotional, physical and psychological aspects - anything that could affect your cycles, including your dietary history.

Know that I’m going to support you in whatever you are going through presently.

Because of my experience, I can also give you my opinion and my perspective on what I think is the most optimal ART intervention for you, as well as how we can work towards your goal through TCM, or a combination of the two.

I’ve had experience with thousands of patients who have gone to ART clinics throughout the five boroughs, and I am familiar with each clinic’s individual strengths. This helps me guide couples in the right direction to reach their goals faster.

If you decide to continue with TCM, we can cover next steps and create a schedule, starting with a 3 month plan.

I work with women and couples who are trying to conceive naturally and those who are using ART.

Navigating the complicated system of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) can be an overwhelming process. With so much information available, during an already stressful time, it can be difficult to know which doctors, specialists, or reproductive endocrinologists are right for you, which procedures and protocols to follow, and what to try next when nothing seems to be working.

I work with you on your journey to understand why you might be having trouble conceiving. Following a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approach, I look at the whole system, as well as potential environmental and lifestyle impacts because infertility can be quite convoluted. My approach is to investigate your concerns from various angles, including, but not limited to, uterine receptivity, blood flow, egg quality, structural issues, or male factors.

When it comes to pregnancy, I look at the larger picture, from conception through birth.

My goal is to optimize your entire system-not just for conceiving, but also for carrying your child to term and caring for your body after birth.

With 17 years of experience I’ve witnessed the rapid evolution of Western interventions (ART). In the ever-changing, fast growing field, it can be difficult to know which interventions are right for you. My experience and connections with area reproductive health specialists have furthered my ability to help you determine the best course of action for your specific case and concerns.

I believe in trusting in your own body and I aim to help women navigate the system, so as little intervention as possible needs to be utilized.

Let’s get started
